This is such a perfect sound for where jazz adjacent music is in 2019. It's super mature, polished, musicianship is crazy yet it all sits in the right place.
It's an understated bit of brilliance, and a total set it and forget it album...just put in on and vibe out to it...it's fresh!
Favorite track: Closer to You.

Captain Supernova's Voyage sounds like a good, classy release of the Golden Era of jazz and soul, infused with synths and contemporary, outer-spacey hints creating a chilling atmosphere. It has something of acid jazz, something of chill out, something vaguely trip-hop. And it's so charming.
Favorite track: Breathing (feat. Made By Crooks).

This record feels like Daft Punk, R+R Now, and Ab-Soul's 'Control System' all met in space and formed one burning star. The Captain's composition and musicianship is a fingerprint or a tiger stripe...Nothing like it. Captain Supernova could not have been a more accurate moniker, as he captains a spaceship through decades and universes that only otherwise exist in the unknown. Fresh and Intergalactic. The stuff that dreams are made of.

This album brings the perfect combo of spacey jazz and funk together for a literal voyage through the cosmos. Captain Supernova brings that Daft Punk x Pharrell space funk to the table so if you like that combo buy this record.
Favorite track: Find A Way (feat. Angela Muhwezi & Mark de Clive-Lowe).

Eric Borders, born and raised on the westside of Los Angeles, is a keyboardist, producer and composer. He has produced for a wide range of genres and artists. He has shared stages with the likes of Kamasi Washington, Jose James, Jimmy Cliff, The Internet, Stanley Clarke and George Duke to name a few.
He was the founder of the hip-hop, soul, and funk group Balance and the Traveling Sounds. A group of 7 individuals melding Hip-hop, Soul, Funk, and Rock together. They garnered worldwide acclaim after there 2010 release of the “Departure EP”. The group has accumulated over 6 millions views on youtube and has created a worldwide fanbase.
In 2014, Eric moved away from the group experimenting heavily with synthesizers, vocoders, and talkbox. This is when the idea of creating an alter-ego, Captain Supernova was put into place. He released the Captain’s first EP “Visions of the Unknown” a self released album.
In 2016, C.SN released his next EP “The Doors of Perception” off the Los Angeles based label Cold Busted Records. He builds on his stunning musicality and deft stylistic fusions to reveal seven tracks of smooth and uncompromisingly funky jazz-influenced music.
The next move for C.SN is a release with accomplished label Ropeadope Records. The next record “The Voyage Never Ends...“ is C.SN’s grand opus which will be released in Fall of 2019.

Lakecia knocks this one out of the park! She does justice to the music of John and Alice Coltrane. Excellent production with Lakecia and co-producer Reggie Workman. Yes, that guy, the legend! Lots of special guests with Jazzmeia Horn, Brandee Younger, Marcus Strickland and Dee Dee Bridgewater to name a few. One of the best releases of 2020! Perhaps the next release will be on vinyl? Music of this quality deserves it! Rob O.
